Chamber of Vembanad Hotels and Resorts ,Kumarakom was formed on 5th July 2006 and convened its first meeting at Kumarakom Lake Resort, M/s Varghese Valakkuzhi ,Salim Das and Mr. A V George was nominated as President, Secretary and and the Treasurer of the association respectively.
Monthly meeting and other meeting of CVHR was held on many occasions, usually at the members, House Boats, Hotels and Resorts, namely M/s Coconut Lagoon, Paddy Field Resort, Waterscapes, Taj Garden Retreat, Cocobay, Kumarakom Lake Resort, Lakshmi Hotels and Resorts, Lake Palace, Tharavadu Heritage Home, Dubai Hotel, Shine Tourist Home, Zuri Kumarakom, Backwater Ripples, Paradise Resorts, Illikkalam Lake Resort, Abad Whispering Palms and also in the CVHR Office near Govt.Boat Jetty at Kumarakom.
M/s Subin Koshy Manuel, Rex Julious and Sam Philip had served the CVHR, Kumarakom as President, after Mr. Varghese Valakkuzhi. Mr Raj Mohan became the Treasurer after Mr AV George.
M/s Salim Das, Joseph John and Mr V.B Sashidharan is currently serving the CVHR as President, Secretary and the Treasurer respectively.
CVHR Kumarakom had successfully undertaken the cleaning campaign of Birds Sanctuary, for two times, Vembanad Lake and also the Market Junction, during 2006-07.
Donations to the Panchayat
a) CVHR have donated 18 Spray pumps with the cost of rupees 22000, to the members of kumarakam panchayat at a public function held at kumarakam panchayat, the meeting was presided by the district panchayat president Mr. K P Sugunan and the panchayat president Mr. Damoodhiran also attended the meeting.
b) CVHR donated around 12000 Kg of rice to kumarakom panchayath during the flood during the period 2006 – 2008.
Donations to the Police Station
a) CVHR also donated 100 mosquito nets to kumarakom police station worth rupees 10,000.
b) CVHR donated 4 chairs and a table to the room of kumarakom ourism Police at kavanattinkara, for Rs3500/-
CVHR donated Rs25,000/- to Organizations and to a lady for medical expenses.
Donation for the water project of kumarakom panchayat
CVHR collected around Twelve lakh and Seventy Thousand rupees, from the members, for the purchase of 10 cents of lands near puthen road in north kumarakam for the water supply scheme of kumarakom panchayath as per the specific request of the kerala state truism director Dr V Venu IAS, Shri V N Vasavan MLA, and Shri Dhamoodharan. Dr Venu and Sri V N Vasavan MLA promised to the CVHR members at a meeting held at kumarakom panchayath office, that all the CVHR members will be directly benefited from the water supply project and it will start its operations on or before march 2008. But the scheme is not yet started of unknown reasons.
Cleaning campaign on world environment day.
CVHR participated on the 5th of June 2008 and 2009 for cleaning of the government vocational higher secondary schools compound. CVHR also planned to have regular maintenance of the school compound to keep the environment as clean, green and tidy.
Representation to the government
CVHR met the home and tourism minister Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, for 3 times to discuss and submit the memorandum of the problems of the tourism industry and the kumarakon tourism zone. The representatives of CVHR had also met the LDF Convener Mr Vikkam Vishwan and Mr. V N Vasavan M L A and the KTDC chairman Mr. Cherian Philip to appraise the tourism industries problems and concerns.
The office of the CVHR is functioning, at the Maliekkal buildings near kumarakom boat jetty and Mr. Raju Mathew is appointed since march 2007 as the office sectary and also directly handing the delivery of C- forms to the concerned police stations and other related offices as per the instructions from the authorities.
Monthly meeting of CVHR will be held in every month, now it is decided to be held on mostly the second Wednesday’s of every month.
VISION AND MISSION
1) Have very good understanding and co-operation among all the members of the association, for common benefit.
2) Common efforts for the marketing of the destination of kumarakam tourism zone through internet, brochure, periodicals, magazines, newspapers, tourism fairs in India and foreign countries, offices of department of tourism of kerala state,in and out side of the state.
3) Extend the chamber activity among all hotels and resorts around the lake vembanad
4) Awareness campaign on every 5th of June for the pollution free and plastic free kumarakam.
5) Public awareness campaign on every 27th September, world tourism day, for the social, cultural, political and economic values of travel and tourism
6) Stand for the responsible tourism for to have sustainable tourism in kumarakam
